People with learning difficulties in North Tyneside can try out new sports and physical activities at a free sports festival organised for Learning Disability Week (June 21 to 27).
Archery, boxing, football and tennis are some of the sports on offer at the Getting It Right festival, which starts at 10am on Wednesday at Park Sports Centre, North Shields.
Paralympian Stephen Miller will drop by to talk to people about taking up sport, and James "Lights Out" Olsen will give budding boxers a demonstration at 4pm.
Visitors who discover their ideal activity can sign up for regular sessions at clubs around the area, and there will be a range of charities and organisations giving information about cancer screening, oral health and nutrition.
Rachel Toland, North Tyneside Council's disability sports development officer, said: "The Get it Right festival is a brilliant opportunity for people with a learning disability to try out sporting activities for free.
"It supports our Widening Horizons for Sport initiative, which is all about providing new and improved cultural opportunities.
"Not only does the day promise to be great fun, but it will feature the chance for people to receive some really useful health advice too."
The festival is open until 7pm to people of all ages, with a soft play and sensory room for younger children.
It forms part of Learning Disability Week and has been organised by North Tyneside Council, Mencap, North Tyneside Primary Care Trust and the Learning Disabilities Federation.
